Abito was announced as the Residential Developer of the Year at a prestigious awards ceremony last week, beating off stiff competition from a range of heavy-weight north west developers.
Designed to showcase the excellence within the property sector in the region, the Insider Property Awards North West 2007 took place at Manchester Central on Thursday 17th May.
Ten awards were eagerly contested by the property sector’s elite at one of the most prestigious events to take place in the regional property market calendar.
The award for the Residential Developer/House Builder of the Year was presented to Les Lang, Managing Director of Abito by Colin Lord of E C Harris, North West Property Sector Leader.
Abito, a subsidiary of Manchester-based developer Ask Developments (last year’s winners of the Commercial Developer of the Year Award) won the award from a high-class shortlist for successfully developing affordable, compact-living apartments.
Michael Taylor, Editor of NW Business Insider magazine, said: “Abito’s approach is markedly different to its competitors; their Greengate scheme has opened up a new area of the city with a new product that clearly has had considerable design input.”
The first Abito apartments, which started at under £90,000 are now completed at Greengate and feature 256 intelligently designed living spaces over eight floors - just 3 minutes from the city’s Harvey Nichols department store.
Les Lang said: “To win this award as a relatively young company is tremendous – and testament to the dedication and hard work of the team who undertook an extensive research and development programme prior to the scheme’s construction. The apartments are unique and the judges obviously recognised the concept, ethos and excellent design.”
Abito beat off competition from the other shortlisted developers including past winners Urban Splash, LPC Living and West Properties.
Abito’s next scheme at Clippers Quay, Salford Quays is currently under construction and will include 290 multi-functional Abito apartments, eight of which will be Abito Duos complete with a 600 sq ft roof terrace.
