The demolition of a former cinema at Clippers Quay has been given the go ahead to make way for a new residential and commercial development.

Ask Property Developments Ltd have been granted permission from Salford City Council to knock down the old cinema and build 651 apartments with 6,300 sq metres of commercial space.

Included in the 651apartments will be 47 studio apartments, 281 one-bedroom apartments, 286 two-bedroom apartments, 29 three-bedroom apartments and eight duplex apartments.

The unique, curved design will see the Clippers Quay development at six storeys at its lowest point and towering 23 storeys at its highest.

The 3.5 acre site is bounded by Clippers Quay to the north, Trafford Road to the east and by the Manchester Ship Canal to the south and west and while planning permission for the development has been granted, not date has been set as to when work will begin.

Duncan Bowman, residential director at Ask Developments, said: “We’re currently working on furthering the design and procuring the work packages.  No date has been set as to when  work will begin.”
